Substrate Preparation

Many tiling failures, such as cracked grout, loose floor tiles, or water damage, have nothing to do with the tiles themselves. They occur because the surfaces underneath were not prepared correctly.
We do not lay tiles on bouncy wooden subfloors, uneven plaster, or unsealed anhydrite screeds. Our preparation standard includes:
- Decoupling membranes (e.g., Ditra matting) on floor screeds and wooden joists to absorb movement and prevent cracks.
- Cement backer boards in high-moisture zones instead of standard plasterboard, which can sag and mould.
- Self-levelling compounds to flatten uneven subfloors before laying large-format floor tiles.
- Moisture testing and priming of screeds to ensure proper adhesive adhesion.
